4th Day of Intravital Microscopy

Intravital Imaging allows for the spatio-temporally resolved observation and quantification of cellular processes in homeostasis and in disease settings in the native tissue microenvironments at resolutions not achieved by other techniques. In order to accurately understand highly dynamic events in real time in disease settings such as cancer, metabolic, neurologic, immunological interactions, infectious diseases or even just during development intravital imaging has emerged as an indispensable and highly adaptable tool.

The 4^th Day of Intravital Microscopy is an annual meeting organized by the team “Intravital Microscopy” of the GerBI-GMB e.V. and held this year in collaboration with the Intravital Imaging Expertise Center of the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology on the 13^th + 14^th of November 2024 in Leuven, Belgium. The team “Intravital Microscopy” was  founded at the 7th GerBi Annual Community Meeting in Fulda 2016 and has since then been fostering and enabling professional exchange and interaction between scientists and facility staff performing intravital microscopy (IVM).

This 4^th iteration of the annual networking conference will bring together practical performers of intravital microscopy techniques, be it PhD students, postdocs or facility staff, from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and beyond. Technique and skill exchanges are the key focus of the meeting, with lectures and scientific talks connected to interactive round table discussion workshops. These in particular are highly valued by the community and can be used as a flexible forum to discuss practical aspects and problems performers of this method are often facing solitary at their respective sites. Part of our concept is the well-received “poster and beer” session in the evening, combining social get together and networking with the opportunity to present and discuss, explicitly asking company representatives for active participations. The 4^th Day of Intravital Microscopy will further be followed by a separate VIB Training Day in Intravital Microscopy on the 15^th of November.

Our meetings in presence have so far been visited by up >70 participants, forming lasting connections between individuals and institutions.
