Information Infrastructure for BioImage Data
Project description
I3D:bio, short for “Information Infrastructure for BioImage Data” is a DFG-funded initiative aimed at enhancing microscopy data management through the open-source system OMERO (OME-Remote Objects). The project emerged from the open and informal RDM4mic group, which focuses on best practices in bioimage data management.
Key objectives of I3D:bio include:
- Supporting the implementation of OMERO instances at German institutions and universities.
- Improving metadata annotation via tools and community-approved checklists.
- Establishing a user-friendly knowledge hub covering bioimage data management topics.
- Providing training materials and workshops for core facilities, researchers, and IT professionals.
The project, running in its first phase from 2022 to 2025, is a collaboration among four institutions led by core facility heads who are members of GerBI-GMB. GerBI-GMB supports the project by integrating core facility needs, facilitating interactions with industry partners, and sustaining the established knowledge hub. The I3D:bio website is hosted by GerBI-GMB.
