Project description

GloBIAS – the Global BioImage Analysts society – is an association bringing together everyone involved in BioImage Analysis.

The idea is based on NEUBIAS, a COST action funded networked (2016–2021) that offered a large range of activities to the emerging community of BioImage Analysts in Europe.

GloBIAS aims to provide a similar range of interactions on a global scale, in-person and online, and to build a sustainable base for the BioImage Analysts community in the form of a legal entity.

Funding has been received by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative as part of the call Advancing Imaging Through Collaborative Projects for two years (2023 to 2025). The grant applicants together with a community manager and around 40 volunteers are working together in a number of work groups, mainly concentrating on the milestones of the grant proposal. With the official registration as an association in October 2024 in Klosterneuburg, Austria, the association will slowly transform by accepting members in the near future (approx. beginning of 2025) and the expansion of work groups and activities. The CZI grant is hosted by German BioImaging, providing a stable backbone and infrastructure during the start phase of the new association.

Work groups formed as part of the CZI grant proposal are:

  • Workshop 2024
  • Communications
  • Publications
  • Training & Education
  • Survey 2024
  • Foundation

Further information about the work groups, people involved and an opportunity to register for the bi-monthly GloBIAS newsletter can be found at www.globias.org.
