Implementing OMERO through a multi-step process

OMERO should be installed following a concerted plan of action, including various parties at the installing institution. We recommend a multi-step process for an OMERO installation divided into the following phases:

  • Planning,
  • Test installation,
  • Pilot phase operation,
  • Launch of a productive service, and
  • Post-production user management and evaluation.

To start getting acquainted with bioimaging data management and the recommended process for OMERO installations, please review our review in the Journal of Microscopy (https://doi.org/10.1111/jmi.13317):

Discrete considerations involving various stakeholders must be collected locally. We provide a process management template to support local decision-making: https://zenodo.org/records/14178789/files/20241016_ProcessManagement_FitForOMERO.xlsx
This template is part of the FitforOMERO workshop material: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14178789

To review an example OMERO installation including the views from researchers, IT, and core facilities, please read our discrete use case description published in the Journal of Microscopy (https://doi.org/10.1111/jmi.13360):

We encourage community members who intend to implement OMERO to reach out for I3D:bio’s direct support.
