German BioImaging Joins TU Dresden in the Implementation of the DFG Code of Conduct for Good Scientific Practice
Heidelberg/Dresden, [24.02.2026] — German BioImaging – Gesellschaft für Mikroskopie und Bildanalyse e.V. (GerBI) is proud to announce that it has formally joined TU Dresden’s implementation of the German Research Foundation’s Code of Conduct: Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice (DFG Kodex). This step marks an important milestone in the continued professionalization and long-term sustainability of the society.
The collaboration is based on a newly signed collaboration agreement with TU Dresden, allowing GerBI to integrate into TU Dresden’s established framework for good scientific practice (GWP). By aligning with these structures, GerBI further strengthens its commitment to transparency, integrity, and responsible research conduct within the bioimaging community.
“We are very grateful to TU Dresden for their support and partnership,” said Prof. Stefanie Weidtkamp-Peters, Chair of GerBI. “Joining TU Dresden’s implementation of the DFG Kodex provides GerBI with a robust and trusted framework to ensure the highest standards of good scientific practice.”
As part of this process, GerBI has also established its own ombuds regulations and will appoint two ombudspersons at the next General Assembly. Together, these measures ensure that GerBI meets all formal requirements for responsible research governance.
As a direct consequence of joining the GWP framework and completing the DFG verification process, GerBI is now officially eligible to apply for and administer funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG). This includes the ability to submit and manage its own grant applications and to administer DFG funding independently, in the same way as a university or research institution.
This development opens new opportunities for the German bioimaging community. GerBI can now act as an applicant and host for DFG-funded projects, further supporting networking, method development, training, and research infrastructure in bioimaging across Germany.
The society warmly invites researchers and initiatives with ideas for DFG-funded projects to get in touch and explore joint funding opportunities with GerBI.
